Everything begins with a gift. A child is born. He is given a little stuffed animal that once belonged to Anna. How to learn to be born, how to learn to die. Filming the places of sickness without remedy, Mary Jiménez tries to learn the art of dying as well as asking, “If the body is mine, how can it do so many things without me? And if the body is not mine, what else is mine?”

Father Casimiro drives to the remotest corners of the Bolivian Andes to bring the Lord’s blessing and Christian faith to the peoples who live in these isolated areas of the world. The camera follows up close the profile and journeys of this missionary, recording his meetings, holy masses, devotion, and the pure sense of mission that pervades him, including the most critical moments and most extreme circumstances of his travels.

SOBRE LAS BRASAS
by Bénédicte Liénard, Mary Jiménez
Belgium, 2013, 85'
A family produces vegetable charcoal for their survival in the plateaus of the Peruvian Amazon, in hardship and poverty. The image of collective decadence can be found in the life of the family. Yet, in every shot, every face in focus, every gesture, an incredible vital force is revealed to the eyes of the filmmakers. This is how they manage to limn a human world resisting against a modernity whose borders are gone.
