Like in a SF novel, in the depths of the rundown Russian province, a small company that practices empirical alchemies on corpses and human brains is entrusted with a woman’s almost centenary mother and the woman herself. They hibernate body parts, promising to restore them thanks to new techniques of reanimation and therapy in a not too distant future. Imagining a life beyond death, the woman dreams a resurrection to a different life, and a happy one.

Tuhoutumisesta ja säilyttämisestä

Directed by: Maija Blåfield (Finland, 2018, 34’)

Five stories of decomposition and resistance – from the poetic reconstruction of mushrooms’ sexuality to a night tour to the Svalbard Islands, to an exceptionally long-lived eel – weave the impalpable, but concrete threads of a reflection on the forces that rule life on our planet.

Directed by: Sebastian Winkels (Germany, 2018, 89’)

In collaboration with Fondazione Finanza Etica

A look behind the scenes of modern banking: from Bolivia to Pakistan, Benin to Switzerland, we take a look at 15 confidential meetings between bank customers and bank consultants. A personal business relationship evolves: questions are asked, opinions expressed, doubts discussed and decisions reached. The consultation table is a stage for confessions and masquerades, a place where values are negotiated and currencies exchanged. Isn’t it strange to discuss highly personal financial matters with a person you barely know?

Friday, November 9th, Spazio Alfieri, 6:30pm– With Alessandro Messina (Banca Etica)

Directed by: Francesco Corona (Italy, 2018, 62’)

On September 24, 2005, after the Verona-Brescia football match, police and visiting fans clashed at the local train station. Several people were injured, and a young man remained on the ground, almost lifeless. Paolo Scaroni fell into a coma and woke up two months later, severely disabled as a consequence of his beating by the riot squad. He was a member of the ultraradical group “Brescia 1911”. The film reconstructs eleven years of his life, following his difficult journey in trying to obtain justice and find a new identity as man.

Directed by: Almudena Carracedo, Robert Bahar (Usa, Spain, 2018, 95’)

Produced, among others, by Pedro Almodovar, the film reveals the epic struggle of the victims of the Spanish dictatorship under General Franco, who are still seeking justice. Filmed for over six years, we follows the survivors in the organization of the Argentine Cause against the crimes of Francoism. Forty years after the ‘Pact of Forgetting,’ this film gets back to one of the darkest pages of Spanish history like a compelling legal thriller, taking a necessary step if one is to understand contemporary Spain.
