- Sebastian Mez (Germany)
Sebastian Mez is a filmmaker, video- and soundartist. He studied at Filmakademie Baden Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany specializing in film directing. His experimental short film Clean Up was shown at more than 40 international film festival (including Festival dei Popoli) and won several prices. Ein Brief aus Deutschland, which takes a special approach onto the subject of modern slavery and prostitution in Europe, won the international middle length competition at Visions du Réel in Nyon in 2011. Metamorphosen was his first feature lenght film, which premiered at the Berlinale 2013, followed by numerous festivals and awards worldwide, including Festival dei Popoli. His experimental work Substanz was nominated for the Filmkunstförderpreis of the National Gallery in Berlin 2015. In 2016 his Remains from the Desert won the Festival dei Popoli as Best Short Film. Sebastian lives and works in Berlin.
- Andréa Picard (Canada)
Andréa Picard is a film curator and writer based in Toronto and Paris. She has worked for The Toronto International Film Festival since 1999, and was a longtime film programmer at Cinematheque Ontario. Since 2006, she has been the chief curator of Wavelengths, the Festival’s critically acclaimed avant-garde film, video and installation program named in honour of Michael Snow. She publishes internationally on film, art and architecture, and writes a quarterly Film/Art column for Cinema Scope magazine. In 2017, she was appointed Artistic Director of Cinéma du Réel in Paris.
- Madeline Robert (France)
Madeline Robert is a member of Visions du Réel's (Switzerland) selection committee since 2015. After various experiences in festivals, in France and elsewhere, she dedicates her career to documentary films and settles in Lussas (France) in 2008, within the Documentary Village. There, she founds the production company Les Films de la caravane where she currently works and mainly produces first documentary films. In 2012, she takes part in setting up the Doc Corner, a space dedicated to documentary films within the Cannes Festival Film Market. She is also involved in the new SVOD Plateform dedicated to creative documentaries: Tënk.
The International Jury will assign the following prizes:
- Best Feature-Length Documentary Award (8,000 euro, divided equally between the director and the production)
- Best Mid-Length Documentary Award (4.000 euro, divided equally between the director and the production)
- Best Short Documentary Award (2.500 euro, divided equally between the director and the production)
- "Gian Paolo Paoli" Award to the Best Ethno-anthropological Film.
