LET THE MUSIC PLAY - MUSIC DOCUMENTARIES
In an era in which the musical documentary is confined to biopics as the single form of appeal to partially recoup the investment, the renewed section “Let the Music Play” presents a survey of original and surprising works ranging from the all-female genesis of electronic music to the relationship between racial issues and house music in the US. To complete the programme, a tribute to Lech Kowalski, the stateless and rebel film-maker whose celebrated ‘punk trilogy’ is presented along with some films chosen by him. This particular selection is meant to illustrate an idea of cinema whereby, fully rejecting the standardized canon of the rockumentary, music is the ideal instrument to hit the nerves of society.
