The Festival dei Popoli – International Documentary Film Festival celebrates its 61st edition from 15 to 22 November in a new digital form in the PIUcompagnia virtual space in collaboration with the platform.

While always aware that the role of a Festival remains, today more than ever, that of creating communities around cinema, the challenge imposed by this 2020 – and that we take up – is to transform a possible limitation into an enrichment.

The most difficult months of last spring made us understand that distances can be bridged and that the network works especially when it integrates and does not disintegrate the collective dimension. When it multiplies the opportunities for dialogue and exchange, opening up opportunities otherwise limited to ‘where and when’.

This is why we have designed a new viewing space within which to propose, in addition to film programming, also a calendar of meetings with the authors exclusively for those who sign up online.

From 15 to 22 November, the Festival dei Popoli will offer friends, old and new, a wide selection of films that are the result of a year-long work aimed at discovering the best of the current documentary landscape and beyond.

What moved us in the composition of this year’s program is in fact the desire to account for the variety of languages and the richness of forms typical of a cinema that is increasingly exciting for its ability to renew itself and bear witness to a world in constant transformation.

Examples are the films of the International Competition (18 between short films, medium films and feature films, all unpublished in Italy) that will amaze you with their strength and originality, as well as the works of the Italian Competition, signed by the most interesting talents of the Italian scene (7 titles , all unpublished absolute). But there are also the “Habitat” films, on the themes of the ecosystem and contemporary living; the section “Let the Music Play” dedicated to music and the section for young spectators and families, “Popoli for Kids and Teens”.

In short, with this edition, the 61st Festival dei Popoli further opens up the idea of community by offering original looks, stories on the margins of the world, innovative forms of audiovisual narration to a wider audience than ever, to share an experience together of a new community.

The films will be available on the MYmovies platform for seven days from the programming date, unless otherwise specified in the online program (only in Italy).
