Through their experimental films, these artists ‘of the surreal’ have fostered an idea of ‘freak comedy’ that is inextricably linked to artistic creation. This film is cherished by its director, who attempts to  portray the minimalist musician and experimental filmmaker Conrad in the most bizarre and unusual form possible, that is, by way of a dazed re-enactment of key moments in his life: practising the violin, his relationship with La Monte Young, dancing in costume. In an era before the term ‘cosplay’ had become widespread, the latter scenes convey the tenderness of an intense personal and artistic relationship from the perspective of two children in time.
