  • EL PAÍS DEL DIABLO
    Land of the Devil

    Argentina 2008 72'
    Directed by: Andrés Di Tella
A film-maker on the track of Estanislao Zeballos, one of the ideologists of the extermination of native Americans in Argentina in the 19th century – strangely enough, he was also the first to study their traditions and culture, and to try to protect their history. Structured like an open voyage, interspersed with unexpected meetings and sudden discoveries, the film reveals the particular condition of a memory made of minimal traces and ghosts, whom you still have to cope with.

  • HACHAZOS
    Blows of the Axe

    Argentina 2012 83'
    Directed by: Andrés Di Tella
Not a film ‘about’, but a film ‘with’ Claudio Caldini, whom Di Tella defined ‘secret cineaste’; an experimental filmmaker, the representative of a generation now disappeared from the Argentine scene, the generation of avant-garde film. Hachazos is these two film-makers meeting, joining their gazes, struggling, confronting different times of the cinema, visions and practices.

  • LA TELEVISIÓN Y YO

    Argentina 2003 75'
    Directed by: Andrés Di Tella
Both a theoretical essay and a voyage of discovery, both open question and search for a new film form: La television y yo is all of this, and some. In the film, the director gets directly in the game departing from his own relation with the world of media and the televisual imagery that has forged his generation and the following ones. An essay on the history of the media in Argentina, the film quickly becomes the story of an individual who acts out both himself and his own imagination.

  • MACEDONIO FERNÁNDEZ

    Argentina 1995 45'
    Directed by: Andrés Di Tella
This film is about the memory of literature, and the images fuelling it. A cinematic travel with writer and scriptwriter Ricardo Piglia along the sites in Buenos Aires that belong to the literary imaginative world of the poet Macedonio Fernandez. The film accompanies the audience into a game of both imaginary and real references – those that link together words and pictures, literature and film in the space of the city.

  • MONTONEROS, UNA HISTORIA

    Argentina 1994 98'
    Directed by: Andrés Di Tella
Through the voice and the gaze of Ana, a former militant in the armed group of Montoneros, the film becomes a sort of journey in the past, made of voices, stories, and traces of memory that remained concealed for years. There, individual history becomes a fragment of a collective story and, at the same time, revelation of the human, of the fragility and the strength proved by those who have dramatically experienced the most terrible years of recent Argentine history.

  • PROHIBIDO

    Argentina 1997 106'
    Directed by: Andrés Di Tella
This is an exploration of the forms of cultural and intellectual production during Argentine’s latest, bloody dictatorship, including the use of media, the space of drama, the forms of film and the diffusion of magazines or books. Representatives of culture tell the collective story. The outcome is not only the reconstruction of a particular historical moment, but also an extraordinary essay on fear and silence.

  • RECONSTRUYEN CRIMEN DE LA MODELO

    Argentina 1990 8'
    Directed by: Andrés Di Tella
This film is based on found footage from a TV show where the police reconstructed the infamous murder of an Argentinean model. The work on pictures and sound (such as slow motion or out-of-sync sound) uncovers the multi-layered nature of the reconstruction as well as the stratification of a second-degree fiction, whose final outcome is not only truth but the making of a journey whereby the televisual form eventually proves to be like cinema, i.e. the creation of stories.
