Directed by: Bénédicte Liénard Montaggio/Editing: Mary Jiménez
The green bench is always there, in the wood inherited by Bénédicte’s family from an old ancestor injured in his work 150 years ago. When her father got sick, Bénédicte decided to ‘play’ with the super-8 films of her family, releasing them from the pain of ‘being no longer.’ Memories are things of the present. They can combine with it as the firmness of a walnut does with the tenderness of its kernel.

Du verbe aimer
Belgium 1985 83'
2015 Thursday, December 3rd, Spazio Alfieri, 4:30 pm
Directed by: Mary Jiménez
Mary Jiménez goes back to Peru after her mother has been dead for a few years. This is the point of departure for a research and an impossible as much as necessary encounter with the memory of her mother. The film is the multi-faceted trace of this research through fragments and places, casting a simultaneously visionary and very lucid gaze onto her homeland, her own places, and her beloved ones. Du verbe aimer is an autobiographical film and a poetical essay on memory becoming story. A film about madness as well as a journey in self-awareness and the discovery of oneself by way of images.

Sobre las brasas
Belgium 2013 85'
2015 Sunday, November 29th, Spazio Alfieri, 10:00 pm
Directed by: Bénédicte Liénard, Mary Jiménez
A family produces vegetable charcoal for their survival in the plateaus of the Peruvian Amazon, in hardship and poverty. The image of collective decadence can be found in the life of the family. Yet, in every shot, every face in focus, every gesture, an incredible vital force is revealed to the eyes of the filmmakers. This is how they manage to limn a human world resisting against a modernity whose borders are gone.
