INTERNATIONAL JURY OF THE 56 FESTIVAL DEI POPOLI

JOS DE PUTTER
JOÃO MATOS
EVA SANGIORGI

CONCORSO INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

MESSAGE OF THE JURY
"The jury has had the pleasure to watch a series of films of a great variety in style and subject, yet who all are serious encounters with people and places.
During our deliberations we found a metaphor to describe more or less a general feeling that connects a lot of the presented films.
It may sound peculiar but we came up with this:
WE ARE AT LOST IN A FOREST WITHOUT A FATHER.
Still, this rather profound sentiment was made bearable by the magic of cinema."

BEST FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY AWARD

O FUTEBOL (On Football)
by Sergio Oksman (Spain, 2015)

Motivation: ” We have seen a masterpiece. A story that deals in a very precise style with the tensions between intimacy and distance, memory and reality, judgment and wonder. It also delivers the most unforgettable evocation of a match in the history of the mundiale and the history of cinema.
This film is not about football....”

SPECIAL MENTION

SOMOS CUBA
by Annett Ilijew (Germany, 2015)

Motivation: ”We were overwhelmed by the sheer power of the images and scenes shot by somebody we only know as Andres, and who we have come to recognize as a very gifted filmmaker.”

BEST MID-LENGHT FILM AWARD

UNE PARTIE DE NOUS S’EST ENDORMIE (Sound Asleep)
by Marie Moreau (France, 2015)

Motivation: ”We were impressed by the austerity of style in rendering this convincing portrait, intimate and disturbing at the same time. It's the signature of a great director, another promise for the future.”

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT AWARD

A FESTA E OS CÃES
by Leonardo Mouramateus (Brasi, 2015)

Motivation: “A film that convinced us of an extraordinary creativity in storytelling. With very scarce means, largely a collection of photos and memories in voice over, we come to witness an universal story of coming to age and leaving people and places behind. Above all it is the proof of cinematic craftsmanship of a young director.”

”GIAN PAOLO PAOLI AWARD” FOR BEST ETHNO-ANTHROPOLOGICAL FILM

BABOR CASANOVA
by Karim Sayad (Switzerland, 2015)

Motivation: “An in-depth portrait, in sincere humanistic style, of the dreams of a group of youths growing up on streets that have nothing to offer them. We were impressed to see how, although celebrating the things they love, they always decide to leave.”

LORO DI NAPOLI
by Pierfrancesco Li Donni (Italy, 2015)

PREMIO “IMPERDIBILI” JURY

CAMILLA TOSCHI (FST)

If I Only Were that Warrior
by Valerio Ciriaci (Italy/USA, 2015).

PALMARES DOC AT WORK

"L’AURA" SCUOLA DI CINEMA AWARD al progetto:

L’ORA D’ACQUA
by Claudia Cipriani

RADICAL PLANS AWARD

Special Mention to the project:

BEIRUT, LA VIE EN ROSE
by Eric Motjer

Il RADICAL PLANS AWARD va al progetto:

PLAYING MEN
by Matjaz Ivanisin.

SUDTITLES AWARD al progetto:

BEIRUT, LA VIE EN ROSE
by Eric Motjer
