Popoli Next Lab is the training and career guidance programme of the Festival dei Popoli aimed at upper secondary school students. It is designed to introduce young people to careers in cinema and festival management.
Through meetings with industry professionals, training sessions, and hands-on activities, participants can gain a close-up look at the different stages of creating a film festival, delve into the language of documentary filmmaking, and experience some of the professions within the cultural and audiovisual sectors.
For the 2026 edition, Popoli Next Lab consists of two workshops:
A training and career guidance programme focusing on filmmaking professions and festival management. Participants will explore the various roles involved – from programming to communication, production to hospitality – and put them into practice during the 67th Festival dei Popoli.
A workshop dedicated to watching and critically analysing documentary cinema. Activities range from the collective viewing of a Festival dei Popoli film and discussions with the filmmakers, through to participating in the Popoli Young Jury Day as jurors.
The Popoli Next Lab workshops are delivered in collaboration with schools, through pathways agreed directly with the participating institutions. For further information: edu@festivaldeipopoli.org
Popoli Next Lab is part of Popoli Next Generation, the Festival dei Popoli project dedicated to younger generations and supported by Fondazione CR Firenze, which also includes Popoli for Kids and Teens and Popoli Young Jury Day.
