Everything Will Change
Germany, Netherlands 2021, 93'
In the near future, the earth is a land as covered with concrete as it is desertificated. The vegetation and soil present unnatural grey-reddish hues; the people have to tackle mandatory lockdowns and growing paranoia due to cyclical waves of pandemic; deep fakes are so widespread that no one believes in anything any longer. Three young people accidentally find images that reveal how the world was before the disaster; they embark on a journey to explore it.
Marten Persiel’s second feature is a bold film experiment where elements of dystopian science fiction and militant documentary are combined to give life to a warning-film that sheds light on the shadows of a present before the eyes of everyone and yet concealed from/by ourselves. Is there still time to rewrite the future and avoid to succumb to the cataclysm we contribute to generating? How much awareness has yet to be raised to offer a horizon not of mere survival, but of life to our children, the animals, and the nature that surrounds us? Everything will change, everything is changing already: we should get ready to change as well.
