To mark the 67th edition of the Festival dei Popoli, the OpenDDB Award for Best Social Impact Documentary has been established. This new accolade is created in collaboration with OpenDDB – Distribuzioni Dal Basso and is dedicated to Italian documentary films selected by the Festival.
The award aims to support cinema that can portray the present, raise questions about the world, and give a voice to stories, conflicts, and communities that are often marginalised. It offers the winning film a tangible opportunity to continue its journey beyond the Festival.
The winning documentary will be supported by OpenDDB through a distribution pathway, which may include screenings in cinemas and local communities, audience Q&As, and, subsequently, on-demand distribution on the OpenDDB platform.
With this new award, the Festival dei Popoli reinforces its commitment to supporting the circulation of Italian documentary cinema, creating fresh opportunities for works to reach diverse audiences and continue their journey after the Festival concludes.
The OpenDDB Award for Best Social Impact Documentary will be announced during the Award Ceremony at the 67th Festival dei Popoli, taking place in Florence from 31 October to 8 November 2026.
