BETWEEN 10 AND 100 HERTZ
ENTRE 10 ET 100 HERTZ
France | 2023 | 18 min
The reinforced concrete structures of a neighbourhood are trembling to the rhythm of its imminent demolition. An engineer is carrying out geophonic recordings of the ground. During the measurements, he meets the people who live in the streets nearby, thus making up a portrait of daily life in a banlieue in the north of France. Émilien Dubuc casts a sensitive gaze on an urban space torn between neglect and the lives of people who resist. The voices of the inhabitants get past the neighbourhood’s physical and cultural borders, piecing together a soundscape that sneaks into the sound frequencies of a building about to be demolished. Entre 10 et 100 Hertz delicately outlines a map of social and emotional relationships thriving in a suburb where, through caring and listening, people resist the pressures of gentrification. (a.d.)
