HYPERMOON
Sweden | 2023 | 78 min
A poetic, unrestrained, and personal film, Hypermoon explores the secret and hidden connections between the course of memory and the fragility of existence. Mia Engberg goes back on her crazy youth in Paris until the present, interweaving threads of memory that, travelling between time and space, reconnect her to a part of herself right at the moment when she receives the harshest announcement: the diagnosis of an apparently lethal disease. Through a visionary but also intimate gaze, we are let into a kaleidoscope of images from different supports – Super8, smartphone, archive footage – and multiple stories. In fact, besides the filmmaker’s, we follow the lonely voyage of Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to fly in space, and the story of elderly gangster Vincent, former partner of Engberg at the time of her Parisian period, who at the moment when he stops living in crime makes a surprising discovery in his basement.
