SOS EXTRATERRESTRIA
Austria, Germany | 1994 | 10 min
More than an alien invasion, the fantasy proposed by Mara Mattuschka in her Sos Extraterrestria is the explosion of some latent, anarchist, and destructive energy; a monstrously terrestrial body that takes on the appearance of a sort of giantess wandering in the streets of a toy city in a crazy tour around the world. The leading character winks at her peers of the cinematic collective imagination such as Godzilla and King Kong, even though she is not disguised as an animal. In fact, it is Mattuschka herself who is having fun creating a panic among humans in the guise of her artistic alter ego Mimi Minus. “I see her like an out-of-context woman, as though she had been taken and catapulted in the film having no idea of what can happen to her” (Mara Mattuschka). An irreverent show on power and domination carried out by the overflowing body of an overgrown girl. (t.p.)
