The talks of the 62nd Festival dei Popoli
From November 22nd to 26th, at 7.00 pm at the Sala Paradiso of the 25HoursHotel (Piazza di S. Paolino, 1), five meetings to talk about gender, imaginaries, environments, cultures and generations.
During the talks, ten exceptional guests will discuss to provide original interpretations of reality and current issues proposed by the documentaries scheduled at the 62nd Festival dei Popoli.

22.11.2021 - Gender
GIANNA FRATTA & VERA GHENO
We are used to understanding genres and orientations as rigid definitions, but we would like to get out of the box!
Is a battle over "gender equality" enough? Is affirming "identities" an understatement? What are the keywords for change?

Gianna Fratta
Gianna Fratta is an artistic director of the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, she is the only woman among the fourteen of the Italian Orchestral Concert Institutions. She is professor of composition elements at the Umberto Giordano Conservatory in Foggia and professor of piano and Opera Workshop at Sungshin University in Seoul.

Vera Gheno
Vera Gheno is a linguist, translator and writer, she deals with digital communication, with particular focus on the theme of sexism, inclusiveness of language and use of schwa. She is a professor and researcher at the University of Florence.

We feed on other people's images but we would like to create imagery for others!
Can images really change the future? How to go deep through something that is "surface"? How to build imagery that creates consciousness?

Michele Smargiassi
Michele Smargiassi is a journalist, he writes about culture and society in the journal Repubblica since 1989. Passionate about photography, he edits the blog Fotocrazia under the name of Il Fotocrate. He is a member of the scientific committees Italian Centre of Photografies studies, The Italian Centre of Art Photography of Bibbiena and of the Fondation Nino Migliori of Bologna.

Paolo Woods
Paolo Woods is a documentary photographer, director and curator, and also the author of eight books. He works on long-term projects, focusing on crucial topics for better understanding the world we live in, but that are difficult to translate in photos.

We inhabit this planet but we often feel alien!
We are in the midst of an emergency but what is the best way to communicate it? We need a change, but how can we activate it, first of all in ourselves?

Annalisa Corrado
Annalisa Corrado is a mechanical engineer and has a Phd in Energy at the Department of Mechanics and Aeronautics at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome. She mainly deals with facilities powered by renewable sources, energy efficiency, rigid management of waste and sub-products and evaluation of the environmental aspects of energy systems.

Francesco Ferrini
Annalisa Corrado is a mechanical engineer and has a Phd in Energy at the Department of Mechanics and Aeronautics at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome. She is also spokeswoman of Green Italia, as well as technical manager of AzzeroCO2 and the Kyoto Club. She mainly deals with facilities powered by renewable sources, energy efficiency, rigid management of waste and sub-products and evaluation of the environmental aspects of energy systems.

TOMASO MONTANARI
We are often told that we are complicated but we actually feel very pop.
Are there still "high" and "low" cultures? And if so, who feeds one and the other? What does it mean today to be "popular"?

Tomaso Montanari
Tommaso Montanari studied the history of European art in the seventeenth century, to which he dedicated over a hundred scientific essays, trying to answer the questions posed by artworks. In 2013 he received the honour of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic «for his commitment to the defense of our heritage» from the President of the Republic.

Giovanni Ortoleva
Born in Florence in 1991, graduated in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Trento and graduated in Directing at the Scuola Paolo Grassi in Milan. In 2018 he received a special mention from the Biennale di Venezia Teatro and presented his directions in two editions of the festival.

IRENE DIONISIO & VOODOO KID
We are 62 but we feel in full adolescence!
Is there still a division between the generations? And if so, what distinguishes them? How to face the conflict and risk a dialogue between the generations?

Irene Dionisio
Irene Dionisio is an author, director and visual artist. Her production includes video-installations and documentaries that have participated in numerous international festivals receiving many awards. Her video installations have been exhibited and projected at the Italian Art Warehouse in NY, at the OCAT in Shanghai, at the Pac in Milan, at the Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva.

VOODOO KID
Voodoo Kid is one of the most representative faces of the new music scene of Generation Z.
It perfectly embodies in sound, imagination and themes a free, fluid and genderless generation, which fights for what it believes in: the protection of the environment and the rights of the LGBTQA + community.
