A SCARY MOVIE

Spain, Portugal | 2025 | 72 min | col. | Spanish, Portuguese

The film director and his twelve-year-old son spend the summer in Lisbon in a deserted hotel. A peculiar setting, reminiscent of a horror film location where mysterious events (could) happen, or scary stories are told. However, the son is not scared, and the father tries to understand why. Recounting the plots of great horror films or recalling real horrors, such as the story of Diogo Alves - the first serial killer in Portugal - or haunted hotel rooms filled with mystery. Amid plot twists and a pinch of irony, we gradually become aware that the main theme is actually Cinema and its ability to create places and narratives – which exist in reality and, at the same time, can evoke the past and transform it into fairy tales on the big screen. A Scary Movie is a film that takes us into a blurred space, hanging between imagination and reality, a space that turns out to be precisely that of Cinema: the space of wonder. (D.D.)
