ANTIPOP

Italy | 2023 | 55 min

Ivrea and its red towers, the venue of the most violent and craziest carnival than any Halloween ever, dominate the autobiographical story told by Marco Jacopo Bianchi, aka Cosmo. ANTI-POP is about a boy who has come up from a small town in Paranoid Piemonte to embrace music. The indie rock debuts of Cosmo and his bands, Mélange and Drink to Me, seem an inevitable consequence of those places and moods, conveying a desire to escape and kill boredom, plus a pinch of healthy arrogance and the wish to describe and share how he cut his teeth. Nothing is trivial about Cosmo’s story, because it is told with a plain approach and a love for anecdotes, which abound, along with other curiosities, in the bizarre family of our hero – thus proving that the normal simply does not exist. To understand the meaning of the concept ‘indie’ in the broad sense, and if it still means something, you need to come this way. (e.s.)
