BETTER GO MAD IN THE WILD
Czech Republic, Slovakia | 2025 | 83 min | col. | Czech
František and Ondřej, two inseparable twins, live far from civilization, in the wild. Their daily routine, immersed in peace and harmony with the world that surrounds them, begins to crumble under the pressure of their different inclinations and personalities: the former longs for freedom, change, and adventure; the latter aspires to stability and clings to the security of unchangeability. The woods of the Bohemian Šumava bear witness to a peculiar drama of separation, and necessary reunification. Through a documentary approach that is close to magic realism, the Slovak filmmaker Miro Remo shows how impossible it is to untangle the knot of this particular brotherhood, which goes beyond the twin-twin specular reflection. A portrait of two men who seem to peacefully coexist in a dimension that is at once dreamlike and alienating conceals an impression of profound dissidence. Rooted in a militant past, this keeps on shaping their anarchically libertarian lives. (A.S.)
