Signs, shapes, writings, abstract and figurative images alternate in this variation on blue directed by Violena Ampudia. The film director welcomed women who have experienced post-partum depression in a cyanotype laboratory. She asked them to transfer hidden desires, forbidden thoughts, and profound fears on the printed paper, describing the emotional tones of their psychological condition through the nuances of Prussian blue, the colour of contemplation, sentiment, and melancholy. The result is a visceral work that strikes the inner chords of the female universe. Sense of guilt, low self-esteem, feeling of helplessness and inadequacy float in this atypical representation of motherhood, accompanied by an essential but effective soundtrack. A delicate film that approaches frankly a complex theme, one that too often feels taboo in western society. (s.c.)
