CORAL CITY

Belgium | 2024 | 20 min | col.

Coral reefs are the marine ecosystem that offers the highest biodiversity in the world. They provide vital support for thousands of animal species and millions of people, who depend on them in terms of food and tourism. The knowledge of scientist Kushlani Dissanayake guides us through Coral City, i.e., in the depths of the Indian Ocean to the discovery of this extraordinary organism and its several components (like coral larvae, which travel several kilometres to establish new colonies). Threatened by the rising temperatures of the ocean’s waters, coral reefs risk disappearing, but if one can be protected against climate change, then many of them can also be saved. (s.e.c.)
