HOMEGROWN

On January 6, 2021, footage of the Capitol Hill attack – the insurrectional attempt carried out by Donald Trump’s supporters in denial of the outcome of the recent November presidential elections – shocked everyone across the world. How did we get to such a dramatic moment for the United States, endangering the solidity of western democracy? What were the consequences of that day of violence? Homegrown is the story of a country verging on civil war. The film director, Michael Premo, has already documented several social movements of contemporary America, ever since Occupy. He follows the story of three far-right activists, members of Proud Boys, from the summer of 2020 to the months that followed Trump’s defeat. The result is a disturbing portrait of a country plagued by increasing unrest, something which arouses concerns on the imminent electoral event in November 2024. (a.d.)
