HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE

UK | 2025 | 100 min | col. | English

The oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface, and yet most of them remain unexplored. The same applies to the countless species that inhabit the deep sea and are still unknown to man. A close-knit group of women marine biologists dive into the depths of the Pacific to explore its mysterious and evocative fauna. It takes these scientists about 14 years to study, classify, and name the colourful creatures they encounter, but impending danger is forcing them to speed up: attracted by the potential exploitation of unknown territories, mining companies are threatening an ecosystem that has remained intact for millennia. Eleanor Mortimer takes us on a journey of discovery into a world immersed in darkness, where flaring coloured and bizarrely shaped fish float in a suspended, distant atmosphere. The resulting, fascinating documentary celebrates the beauty of a fragile and precious microcosm that reminds us of the urgent need to preserve the oceans and their forms of life. (S.E.C.)
