Towards the film’s ending, one of the characters says, “you are telling a story without images through images, and I believe you will fail because our story goes beyond your narration.” Du Songe Au Songe d’un Autre Miroir is played on the edge of paradox, just like Alice who went through the looking-glass and explored a wonderland where a different hierarchy of the senses rules. Zhu Yunyi ‘s gaze finetunes in a different sensory world; to do so, he uses the accepted meaning of the word and tries to bend the image to the sense of touch. The concept of mirror, which in this world doesn’t have a meaning, multiplies with touch, through the fingers that follow the contours of things and faces. The dematerialization of 3D images exposes the crisis of the binomial sight-knowledge, the illusion that seeing gives access to truth: in this paradox, the film’s ground, the characters’ imagination without images opens up a radically ‘other’ possibility of knowing the world.
