A film-pamphlet? A film-essay? A visual experiment? Viewers may be baffled by the images in Post Truth. A voiceover introduces us to our relationship with images these days – a conflicted and problematic one, in which any belief that images are in any way related to reality seems to definitively collapse. The screen shows images created by generative Ais: none of what we see was filmed by a shooting device. What are we looking at, then? How can films, and documentaries in particular, be made if images are no longer associated with reality? The presence of explicitly artificial images in this film – the paradox lies here – turns out to be the latest, extreme revolution that has been accomplished by Documentary Cinema: the world as a mise-en-scène has now been exposed.
