SAVE OUR SOULS

France | 2024 | 91 min | col.

Since 2016, nearly 40,000 people have been rescued by Ocean Viking, the ambulance ship chartered by SOS Méditerranée. When the vessel intercepts a dinghy overflowing with migrants off the coast of Libya, procedures are immediately set in motion to bring a hundred men, women, and children to safety. From then on, it is a matter of taking care of them and preparing them about what awaits them when they arrive on land. Jean-Baptiste Bonnet spent almost two months on board the Ocean Viking to record the cohabitation and aid procedures on the boat but also the political and human issues at stake during this ‘suspension period’ at the doors of Europe, after the rescue and before the landing. Told through a heartfelt, linear dramaturgy that follows a chronological order, the film is a long sea journey until docking on Italian shores, by the side of the crew and the migrants who hope for a new life. Film also available on the MYmovies ONE platform for 72h.
