SKIN DESPAIR

During the summer of her thirteenth birthday, Mireia receives a video camera as a gift. At this sensitive age, characterized by profound changes, the act of filming becomes her instrument for discovering and questioning her relationship between the self, her body, and the external world. Ten years on, Mireia has become a filmmaker. She decides to bring back to light the footage she filmed during her teenage years and reflect on her past: the changes to her body, her encounters with the opposite sex, and the violence she endured. Going back on her experience, the Catalan director creates an emotional and personal journey that becomes a collective one. Through sophisticated editing, introducing at times radical formal choices, - including on the level of sound - the film creates a space for reflection on the fragility of adolescence and on memory as a tool for resistance, while the personal becomes more political than ever.
