SPRING IN KANGIQSUALUJJUAQ

Germany, Canada | 2025 | 80 min | col. | English, Inuktitut

In the depths of the Canadian Arctic, where the River George meets Ungava Bay, a small Inuit village is fighting to recover from the wounds caused by colonialism, which has profoundly compromised its identity. Three female characters guide the viewers through the discovery of this culture, which is still closely connected to the rhythms of nature, hunting, and fishing – ritual practices to hand down from generation to generation – as well as to a rich language at risk of extinction. Shifting from pictures of breathtaking landscapes to intense close-ups of the characters, Marie Zrenner depicts the fragile yet tenacious daily life in this remote territory by way of the gestures, words, and silences of its inhabitants. An intimate and sensitive portrait to reflect on the value of memory, the importance of tradition, and the future of a community struggling to survive. (S.E.C.)
