TO CRISTIANNY FERNANDES

Belgium | 2025| 30 min | col. | French, Portuguese, English, Spanish

In the dead of night, in Brussels, undocumented Brazilian housekeeper Maria remembers her friend Cristianny, a victim of exploitation who disappeared. From the window of a small flat, which is nestled into an anonymous building, Maria’s thoughts go to her companion in the face of so many struggles and sorrows. Joining their strengths, they cried out against the violence they both endured and the injustice to which voiceless people are subjected. Three filmmakers - Maria José Freire, Pauline Fonsny, and Anaïs Carton – have created a poetic film to honour the victims of migration, who are made invisible and dispersed throughout the big cities of Europe. Conceived like a chamber piece of cinema, shot entirely within the confines of an apartment, Pour Cristianny Fernandes includes a short musical detour blending political perspective and poetry. The figure of Cristianny is recreated as a universal representation of those who obstinately fight to defend and assert their dignity. (A.D.)
