WOODS THAT SING

A film in search of principles, forms, and hidden female meanings in the stories of a past that we think we already know but is still to be uncovered. Four main plots are intertwined with visually powerful fragments carrying the point of view of women partisans. Nanica died young during the war but left a diary behind; Marika gave an audio interview with an impressive informative value. Hilda and Zdenka passionately testify to their experiences during the war and post-war years. Women partisans’ crucial perspective has often been minimized when not expunged, while it discloses forms of extraordinary bravery, resilience, intelligence, and a drastic rejection of war – the one conducted, and narrated, by men.
