A tribute to the French-born, Pan-African by adoption, film director who was the first woman to engage in film-making in Africa. From her masterpiece, Sambizanga (1972), onwards Maldoror - who was personally committed to the independence of the African states - depicted the despotic nature of colonialism and used cinema as an instrument of knowledge, struggle, and liberation for over half a century. Festival dei Popoli is proud to present 12 films by a filmmaker who militated for justice and freedom with unwavering determination throughout her life.
