Doc at Work Future Campus - from 15 to 22 November

Training for young documentary filmmakers is the core of the 61st edition of the Festival dei Popoli, in Florence from 15 to 22 November, with the Doc at Work - Future Campus. This program, organized in collaboration with Toscana Film Commission, is an essential appointment for all young professionals working in the field of documentary cinema.

The Doc at Work - Future Campus will be attended by the most important Italian film schools operating in the documentary field and (new this year) many students from international film schools with young directors and producers to compose a generational panorama of new talent from different parts of Europe.

The participants will be involved in a special program of masterclasses and round tables that will also involve special guests invited to the Festival. A new matchmaking space will be created to promote collaboration and exchange between different generations of documentary professionals, with particular attention to the support of new projects in development.

In this perspective, a workshop project will be launched in which the best students and graduates from the main European film schools will be involved, together with a selected group of directors and producers under 35, invited to take part in a series of professionalizing meetings on film making and the dynamics of the contemporary industry.

The aim of the project is to activate a virtuous network capable of connecting the most promising operators in the sector, offering them an open and fruitful discussion on the main issues that concern them.

With the activation of this project, the Festival dei Popoli establishes a training/professional participation mode for young talents unique in Italy.

"Where, if not in Tuscany and at the Cinema La Compagnia, the home of the documentary - said Stefania Ippoliti, head of the film area of Fondazione Sistema Toscana - can these precious threads tie together: talent, curiosity, interest in others and in what surrounds us, experience and experiment? The Festival dei Popoli and its large, lively and generous community to face the present and the future, together with the Toscana Film Commission, offer an opportunity not to be missed".

"We really like the idea of making the Festival dei Popoli a hotbed of new talent - said festival co-directors Claudia Maci and Alessandro Stellino - we believe in the need to make the event a place of discovery that goes beyond the programming of films, however high quality: the months just passed have strengthened the conviction that today it is more necessary than ever to activate connections and create networks. Those who are taking their first steps in this field often perceive the film system as something closed, cryptic and with obscure dynamics: the sharing of experiences and the possibility to meet important professionals from different fields - directors and producers, festival directors and selectors, exhibitors, online platform owners, critics and specialized journalists - will allow participants to make a week of full immersion that will strengthen their tools and awareness. More and more the future of cinema and those who make it must pass through a common project elaboration and our Doc at Work - Future Campus is, in this sense, an integrated and ambitious project, innovative and open to the imagination of new scenarios".

The complete program will be communicated in the coming months together with the workshop guests and the modalities of participation.
