Four Documentaries Presented at the Festival dei Popoli Competing for the 2025 Nastri d’Argento

A major recognition for the Festival dei Popoli: among the documentaries selected to compete for the 2025 Nastri d’Argento, three were screened during the latest edition of the festival, while one was presented as part of the Toscana DOC projects at the Doc At Work Industry section. This confirms the key role of the Florence-based festival in promoting documentary cinema.

The nominated documentaries are:

FIORE MIO by Paolo Cognetti (opening film of the 65th Festival dei Popoli): a journey through the peaks of Monte Rosa with writer Paolo Cognetti, reflecting on nature, climate change, solitude, and human relationships.

REAL by Adele Tulli (Doc Highlights section): an immersion into the digital universe and its influence on our perceptions and daily experiences.

VALENTINA E I MOSTRI by Francesca Scalisi (Italian Competition section): a poetic portrait of Valentina and her ability to create beauty in a small Sicilian village, navigating between overwhelming presences and spaces of freedom.

PRIMA DELLA FINE. GLI ULTIMI GIORNI DI ENRICO BERLINGUER by Samuele Rossi (presented as part of the Toscana DOC projects at Doc At Work Industry): an intimate account of the final days of one of the most influential figures in Italian politics.

These films are part of the official selection for the 2025 Nastri d’Argento for Documentary Films, which includes over forty titles chosen among the most significant works in Italian documentary cinema. This is an important achievement that celebrates the talent of the filmmakers and the cultural promotion work carried out by the Festival dei Popoli.

The official selection is curated by the National Board of Italian Film Journalists (SNGCI): Laura Delli Colli (President), Fulvia Caprara (Vice President), Oscar Cosulich, Susanna Rotunno, Paolo Sommaruga, Stefania Ulivi, and Maurizio di Rienzo, with a special focus on coordinating the reviewed proposals.

While we wait for the announcement of the final five nominees, we celebrate this important recognition for the films and their creators!
