PENSANDO AD ANNA

Thinking Anna

Italia | 2024 | 96 min | col.

A hybrid documentary that explores the story of one of the most important Italian prison riots in the seventies through the words of Florentine Pasquale Abatangelo, co-founder of NAP – Nuclei Armati Proletari. By intertwining interviews, reenactments, and archive footage, and letting the witness interact with journalist Fulvio Bufi and actors and actresses, the film becomes a bold cinematic experiment on a crucial moments of our country’s history. The main character is one of the thirteen political prisoners whose release the Red Brigades claimed in exchange for the Aldo Moro’s release – a man of firm convictions who has never repented or disassociated himself, whose only moment of fragility is the memory of the woman he loved, his companion in a life of struggle. From the historical prison of Florence, the Murate, to the maximum-security prisons all over Italy, this painfully cathartic film leads the audience to question the role of political violence for the purpose of social change.
