ULISSE, the first Italian training residence entirely dedicated to the cinema of reality, was born from an idea by Samuele Rossi - Tuscan director nominated for the Nastri d'Argento 2025 and in the five finalists for the David di Donatello 2025 for the best documentary with Prima della fine. The Residence aims to be a place of innovative vision in the creation of the cinema of reality and, at the same time, a residential training hub that represents a lasting point of reference in the educational and professional context of cinema and audiovisual, with a view to encouraging the birth of a new generation of documentary makers.

The training course is intended for 12 aspiring directors and screenwriters, with particular attention to young people, who can participate by sending the application by May 20th (info on the website: https://www.manifatturedigitalicinema.it/corso-ulisse-residenza-cinema-documentario/).

5 months of activities (between June and November), 3 residential weeks (at Manifatture Digitali Cinema Prato and Pistoia, and in Florence, during the 66th Festival dei Popoli): the program includes meetings with tutors, teachers and documentary film professionals, who will guide participants in the creation of their projects, to be proposed on the international market. Among the teachers and tutors already confirmed, there are Lorenzo Bagnatori, winner of the 2024 Solinas Award for best subject; Giuseppe Cassaro, producer and archive producer; representing the Festival dei Popoli, the organizational director Claudia Maci, the artistic director Alessandro Stellino, the selector and Doc at Work manager Margot Mecca. Speakers and professionals active in the Italian documentary scene will be involved, including Maria Bonsanti, an important reference for international documentary, currently part of the Documentary Commission of the David di Donatello Awards and the Selection Committee of the Giornate degli autori.
