Italian Showcase at Cannes Docs - Marchè du Film 2021: selected projects

The 2021 edition of the Marchè du Film di Cannes - which this year will be held in a hybrid formula from 6 to 15 July - sees the confirmation of the second edition of the Italian Showcase, an initiative inaugurated last year within Cannes Docs thanks to the collaboration between Festival dei Popoli and Torino Film Festival with the support of  Toscana Film Commission and Film Commission Torino Piemonte.

By virtue of the renewed partnership with Cannes Docs, last March the Piedmontese and Tuscan entities launched a call to identify the best 4 projects to accompany the prestigious international exhibition.

Over the last few weeks the applications that have led to the choice of the following projects have thus been evaluated and selected:

For TUSCANY:

From the planet of humans, directed by Giovanni Cioni, produced by Enrica Capra for GraffitiDoc

The siege, directed by Marta Innocenti, produced by Samuele Rossi for Echivisivi

For PIEDMONT:

Dear Cochise, directed by Guido Passi, Mattia Puleo production for Cinefonie

Savoia, directed by Dunja Lavecchia, Beatrice Surano, Morena Terranova, produced by Enrico Bisi and Stefano Cravero for Base Zero

Two moments that the authors and producers of the selected projects will have at their disposal: precisely to reconcile the needs of the hybrid formula proposed for this year by the Marchè du Film, the Italian Showcase will take place in virtual version on July 8th and also in the presence of the July 11.

In both cases, the four documentaries in post-production will have 3 minutes to present their film and 10 more minutes to show an excerpt. Everything will take place in the presence of accredited professionals, producers, sales agents and international selectors and will be promoted through the Cannes Docs channels, as well as through the official communications of the Marchè du Film.

An opportunity for international comparison and promotion for Piedmontese and Tuscan documentary cinema that the four promoters have strongly wanted to renew.

Also in light of the positive and concrete results of the 2020 edition of the Italian Showcase, the presence at Cannes Docs once again confirms the desire to strengthen and optimize participation in one of the major events for the world audiovisual sector.
